Who to Contact: Federal, State or Local

As your federal representative, we're here to represent you on national issues - from Medicare and Centrelink to aged care, the NDIS, and immigration. But many of the day-to-day services you might need support with are managed by your State Government or local council.

This page is designed to make it easier for you to figure out who’s responsible for what - and how to get in touch with them. And if you're ever unsure, you're always welcome to reach out to us. We’ll do our best to help or connect you with the right people.

State Government responsibilities

We often receive questions about services that are managed at the state level.

If your concern relates to any of the following, the best first step is to contact your State MP:

  • Public hospitals and emergency services

  • Public schools and zoning

  • Train and bus services and infrastructure

  • Local police matters, criminal law or legal aid

  • State-managed roads and highways

  • National parks and environmental regulation

We're always happy to help you get in touch with the right person if you're not sure.
