Of the 150 federal electorates, Bradfield's workforce is the most exposed to disruption from artificial intelligence. 

We need a National Data Centre and AI Infrastructure Strategy — nationally consistent planning and environmental standards for large-scale AI infrastructure, developed in partnership with the states and territories, with rigorous community participation requirements. The Government's commitment to legislate binding standards is promising, but the devil will be in the details.

We need a mandatory legislated framework for automated decision-making in government, so that people are told when an automated system was used, receive a meaningful explanation of the outcome, and have a human who is accountable for it and able to override it.

I'll keep pushing for a Sovereign AI Capability Framework setting clear national objectives for compute access, sovereign capability, workforce development, infrastructure resilience and Australian economic participation — and for an AI Safety Institute properly resourced, with the powers to compel information and act on what it finds.

And the taxation and economic mechanisms have to return long-term value to Australians, so that the benefits of data centres outweigh the environmental, energy, water and strategic costs our communities carry.
