Australians deserve a democracy that works for them – not one dominated by corporate influence and backroom deals. Major parties accept millions in opaque donations from big business, allowing policy to be shaped by hidden interests instead of everyday Australians.
I support increasing transparency on political influence, including real-time disclosure of donations, public ministerial diaries, and bans on "cash-for-access" schemes. We must strengthen the National Anti-Corruption Commission by expanding investigative powers, ensuring public hearings for serious cases, and protecting whistleblowers.
We should also end politicians giving plum jobs to their friends and colleagues. I support independent Dr Sophie Scamps' proposed legislation to end 'jobs for mates' so we have truly independent appointments to key institutions such as the ART and the ABC.
I am pleased that after sustained crossbench pressure, parliamentary inquiries and public campaigning, the government has announced an overhaul of the parliamentary pass system — including a public register of sponsored pass holders and stronger access rules. Australians should know who is walking through the doors of Parliament, which is why I publish every parliamentary pass I sponsor on My Passes.
Below you'll find the work I've been doing to strengthen integrity in our democracy — in Parliament, in the media, and here in Bradfield.
