From Nicolette Boele -
Community Independent Candidate for Bradfield

Welcome to stage 3 (out of 5) of our campaign, where between now and year’s end we crank up door knocking and hear from as many people as possible where they feel most comfortable, at their homes.

As we learn more about what Bradfield residents care about, I can also share more about the issues I support:

  • A complete ban on gambling advertising on TV and radio and certain online content services.
  • The call to disallow the approval of new coal, oil and gas projects, and the phasing out of existing ones. 1.5 degree Celsius global temperature rise is not a ‘policy target’, it's a physical limit.
  • People receiving parental leave to accrue employer superannuation contributions. This is a small but important step towards reducing the economic inequality that exists between men and women due to women taking time out to raise children.
  • The Future Made in Australia bill that helps guide public investment decisions to drive private sector investment in Australia’s regions through home-grown clean energy, critical minerals processing, green metals and low carbon liquid fuels.

People have asked about my career, so here are some highlights.

Overall I've amassed 30 years of experience working in and alongside government and business to ‘redefine good’ and build accountability frameworks.

  • A decade judging the NSW Premier’s Green Globe Awards, celebrating organisations that lead on sustainability and the circular economy.
  • Revamped the certification program for superannuation products and financial advice services aimed at lifting the bar on what could be labelled “responsible investing”, protecting consumers and stamping out greenwashing (now adopted by APRA as their standard).
  • Worked in Australian Parliament House as subject matter expert on sustainable cities and industries at the Australian Conservation Foundation, on-farm carbon sequestration solutions at The Climate Institute and increased women’s participation in the workforce for the Smart Energy Council.

Just in the last month, I’ve seen my work at the multi-award winning Climate Venture Capital Fund published as its FY2024 Impact Report. Measuring early-stage climate tech solutions is a challenge and I enjoyed the rigour involved in assessing candidates for the fund on their proposed contribution to a safer climate.

The AEC moves a step closer to finalising its redistribution

Yesterday the Australian Electoral Commission’s augmented Electoral Commission for NSW moved one step closer to finalising the boundaries for the next federal election. The augmented Electoral Commission has not changed its initial draft, released on 14 June 2024, which included the abolition of the Division of North Sydney. There has been a slight change to the boundary between Bradfield and Berowra. Read my full statement here.

Donate to support our community campaign

Last year we showed you how we had invested the funds raised from our first 50 community donors … T-shirts, gazebo, referendum flyer and some stationery collateral.

This year we have been busy investing the funds from our next 100 community donors on laptops and handsets for volunteers doing great work in Gordon HQ, software apps for our volunteer leaders and our volunteers out and about already campaigning!

In September we are raising funds for

  • Printing for 4 new banners $1279.70
  • Printing for Phase 3 flyers $7834.80
  • Starting Monthly Advertisements in local publication The Post $900.00

Please join in our Community Donor campaign, donate $300 or whatever you can and be part of our community to do democracy differently.

Why a community independent?

Watch this inspiring video – People Powered Politics. Community independent Federal Members of Parliament talk about the impact of community independents, and various Voices groups speak, including our very own Nick O’Brien, President of Voices of Bradfield.

If you were at Nicolette’s celebration, you will have watched this exciting video on Australian politics – it’s something to enjoy again.

“We bring positive energy into Parliament. We’re not dragged down by ideology. We’re lifted up by trying to find solutions to the major challenges we have.”
