Today the Australian Electoral Commission’s augmented Electoral Commission for NSW moved one step closer to finalising the boundaries for the next federal election. The augmented Electoral Commission has not changed its initial draft, released on 14 June 2024, which included the abolition of the Division of North Sydney. There has been a slight change to the boundary between Bradfield and Berowra.
I understand the depth of feeling of many in the North Sydney community on this issue, and the personal impact on Kylea Tink MP, for whom I have the highest regard.
It is important to acknowledge that the AEC has run a transparent and responsive process to hear community concerns. There will inevitably be those who are disappointed, but we should recognise that the AEC is an institution of which Australians can be proud, one which helps us to preserve the democracy we all treasure.
The AEC’s final determination is expected on October 10.
Throughout this process I shall continue to meet residents within the current boundaries of Bradfield at their doorsteps, in our village centres and online to learn more about the issues that matter to them. I look forward to doing the same, in the “new” Bradfield, after the AEC’s final determination.
