From Nicolette Boele -
Community Independent Candidate for Bradfield

According to Michael Pascoe in The New Daily, ‘just 12 of the 151 members of the House of Representatives represent their communities … [and] … you’re a mug if you think the other 139 represent the people who elect them’.

I believe the decline in support for the major parties is rooted in this one truth – the parties no longer represent the communities that elect them. On issues such as integrity, women and climate to name a few, our community is not heard by the current representative.

I hear this when I am out door knocking with other members of Team Nic. Residents are surprised and delighted to learn that an aspiring representative is out now to hear from residents about their interests and to build these into a platform to take to Canberra.

I understand that the people of Bradfield want and deserve better representation than they have had for the last 15 years. Many of us look across electorate boundaries and dream of the prospect of having what the people of North Sydney, McKellar and Warringah enjoy.

NSW proposed redistribution

Changes to boundaries are afoot and on Wednesday night, Voices of Bradfield and my campaign team hosted a briefing on the AEC’s proposed redistribution (via Zoom), highlighting ways that interested parties can express any concerns. Please take my Community Survey here and respond to the additional question about the redistribution which I will keep open until July 11. You can see the replay of the Redistribution Briefing here.

The campaign for 2024/2025 federal election has started!

I am stridently asking volunteers from 2022 and new ones to join us now. Please don’t wait - sign up to volunteer now.

There is no certainty when the Prime Minister will call the election, except to say he will likely do it when he feels the ALP has the greatest chance of being re-elected.

If you’ve made it this far and still haven’t signed up to volunteer – Click here to connect with Carey Francis, our super star Volunteer Manager. You will be inducted, you will be trained, and you will be buddied up.

Come join the fun and the privilege that is our democracy. I do this because I know, better is possible.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

Why a community independent?

Every community deserves a local representative who genuinely serves its interests, not the dictates of a political party who require their MPs to vote in a certain way.

We are working hard to build a strong understanding of the issues that are important to Bradfield.

How do we do this? Door knocking enables us to have thoughtful one on one conversations. Our community survey continues to give us insights. Kitchen Table Conversations provide a comfortable environment for discussion and, of course, we would love you to drop into the office – it is now open every weekday from 11:00am to 4:00pm. If you prefer email, please email us at [email protected]

Once elected, I will naturally continue to consult the community in Bradfield regularly and widely.

Look at Dr Sophie Scamps MP’s track record to see how Bradfield could be represented. Since May 2022, she has made 105 parliamentary speeches, held 650 meetings and a whopping 9,429 constituent cases have been resolved. Not to mention, fighting to keep oil and gas drilling off the beaches, launching a pledge to call on all state and federal politicians to work together to end logging in native forests across Australia, introducing the Healthy Kids Advertising Bill and the ‘Ending Jobs for Mates’ Bill and bringing together a People’s Jury on Housing with the aim of coming up with three policy priorities for which she can advocate in Canberra.

I hope I have the privilege of doing the same for Bradfield.
