The breaking news that Iran was behind at least two antisemitic attacks on Australian soil late last year is both shocking and deeply disturbing. This is an abhorrent attempt to stoke division and erode social cohesion in Australia.  

I welcome the Government’s expulsion of the Iranian ambassador and its commitment to declare the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organisation. 

I want to be clear: antisemitism is a scourge, and it is the responsibility of all of us to stand together against it in all of its manifestations.  

I have reached out to Jewish community leaders in my area and will continue to do so. The Jewish community has my full support during this deeply troubling and painful time.  

I will stay in close contact with the Government and continue to receive briefings to ensure our community is kept informed and supported. 

I call on everyone in our community to demonstrate care and respect for each other – it's what Australians do.
