From Nicolette Boele - Community Independent Candidate for Bradfield
The Government’s bill, aimed at revamping political campaign finance, is yet to make it onto the parliamentary agenda. If Senator Farrell’s speech to the McKell Institute is anything to go by, the Government is likely to put parties ahead of people in their proposed reform. You can read my views in a recent opinion piece for The New Daily: Proposed campaign finance changes are disingenuous and disrespectful
Join us on Sunday November 3 for a park meet and greet in the new part of Bradfield
The AEC has now issued its final determination on the redistribution where, from the next federal election, the suburbs of Willoughby, Chatswood, Middle Cove, Castlecrag, Artarmon, Northbridge, Naremburn and St Leonards make up "future Bradfield". Your electorate may have changed, but you don’t need to. The AEC will automatically enrol you in your new electorate.
On Sunday November 3 at midday, we will host our first campaign event at Willoughby Park (near the gazebo). Please join us, and for those with family and friends in the future Bradfield suburbs, ask them to come and meet me and members of Team Nic. Wear a campaign shirt as we plan to take lots of photos!
Local Council election results
Congratulations to the councillors elected to serve our local communities out to 2028; an extra cheer to Mayors Tanya Taylor (Willoughby) and Christine Kay (Ku-ring-gai). These elected officials oversee so much of what makes it special to live here on Sydney’s north shore. Wishing all councillors a collaborative and constructive term.
Come to our annual fundraising garden party on Sunday October 27
Our annual fundraising garden party - open to all Team Nic members - will be in a gorgeous private garden in Wahroonga on October 27. If you haven’t RSVP'd yet, please do so as numbers are limited.
Finally, I look forward to seeing many of you at Saturday’s Net Zero Ku-ring-gai Sustainable Futures Day - can’t wait to see local chefs cook up a storm of seasonal produce on an induction cooktop!
Thank you for your ongoing support.

Donate to support our community campaign |
Our September fundraising was a huge success!
As they say, early money is like yeast: it raises the dough. Thank you so much to the 78 wonderful locals who donated in September! Together we raised $9,977.
Nicolette is all about transparency, so we like to share regular updates on our fundraising. So far 211 people have donated $333,000 directly to this campaign. We’ve also received $104,500 in donations from the Climate 200 Community (representing over 10,000 donors).
For context, most independents who won in 2022 spent $1-2m. One of the hard things about planning election campaigns is that a lot of the donations tend to come in the last month, when it’s actually hardest to spend. That’s why we really appreciate those long-sighted supporters who chip in an early contribution or a regular monthly donation.
We are delighted to be hosting you at our annual fundraising Garden Party on October 27. We look forward to meeting up with past, current and future supporters. See further details and RSVP to our Garden Party here.

Why a community independent?
A minority government will be a good government
There appears to be some angst about the possibility of a minority government following the next election. This is just another scare tactic. The “two party” system is already being challenged by community independents and the result has been better representation, better policy and better legislation. Community independents have shown that it will be OK - orderly government will continue.
“We have a whole lot more impact than a backbencher or a member of the opposition who are really just there to say No. We have an opportunity to improve legislation, take an evidence-based approach and work rationally.”
Kate Chaney MP, Independent Member for Curtin, WA
