From Nicolette Boele - Community Independent Candidate for Bradfield
My message this BOELE-tin is ‘please donate now’.
This 47th Parliament’s House of Reps sits for just 19 more days between now and the budget on March 25, 2025. There’s a huge backlog of bills to read in these few days. Proposed campaign finance reform laws - which I anticipate will serve the major party duopoly, and freeze out minor parties and independents - will likely be rushed through. This coming election could be the last one run where independents, like me, can fundraise with any hope to compete with the incumbent parties who have access to other sources to finance their campaigns. If you can spare any funds for my campaign, now is the time to donate.
Early money is like yeast; it helps raise the dough.
Another challenge is mis- and disinformation. Just this week, the Coalition launched its campaign Teals Revealed, much of which is deliberately misleading. To manage this risk to our democracy, we need funds to get our messages out to people on social media, where misinformation often lurks. Please donate now to help us do that.
Come to Willoughby Park on Sunday November 3 at 12pm
Finally, one of the best ways to inoculate yourself from dodgy claims is to lift the lid and judge for yourself. That’s why I’ll be at Willoughby Park this weekend on Sunday from midday with Nick O'Brien, President of Voices of Bradfield, plus Team Nic volunteers and new people from suburbs joining future Bradfield. Come meet me, ask questions and make up your own mind - and enjoy a free slice of cake. Independent Thinking!
Thank you to the 50+ individuals and families that donated to our Boele for Bradfield campaign in the last week.

Creating a united Bradfield
We posted 15,000 flyers in letterboxes in the suburbs joining Bradfield with help from lots of people - Willoughby, North Willoughby, Chatswood, Middle Cove, Castlecrag, Artarmon, Northbridge, Naremburn and St Leonards.
This new flyer introduces Nicolette, invites people to this Sunday’s event in Willoughby Park and asks people to fill out our community survey - an important action so we learn the views of the community. The flyer is in three languages - English plus traditional and simplified Chinese - as is Nicolette's website.

Join the conversation!
Did you know that almost 60% of the electorate had already cast their ballot (by post or at pre-polling) by Election Day in 2022?
We're talking with people now so that they know about Nicolette's campaign and our team hear about local issues well in advance. We’ve knocked on 3,216 doors and spoken with 1,554 residents since the start of June.
- "Daycare is incredibly expensive"
- "Make housing more affordable - give it a go politicians!”
-
"I'm concerned about global conflict”
We’re in the middle of a 12-week sprint. Will this be the weekend that you listen to a conversation in action and join our volunteer crew?
Note: The map shows where our teams have been; the darker the colour, the more conversations we've had.

The Garden Party last Sunday was another well enjoyed Spring celebration. It was also a focussed fundraising event to raise funds for merchandise, such as bandanas, caps, umbrellas and tote bags.
We aimed for $10,000 and raised $14,735 from our community and a matching $10,000 from one of our major donor families. That’s a total of $24,735! What a community in action we are! A big thank you to the 57 people who donated this month.
Here is one of the pull up banners we fundraised for last month.

Out and about in Bradfield |

Nicolette and her team met with Dr Alison Blazey and Dr Jill Gordon AM (a Bradfield constituent) of Doctors for the Environment NSW about their recent report: Fossil Fuels are a Health Hazard. The data and findings discussed provide an even stronger reason for our communities and nation to wean off fossil fuels, particularly the health benefits for children of switching from ‘natural gas’ cooking and heating, to electricity. |

Why a community independent?
A huge congratulations to Jacqui Scruby MLA and the people of Pittwater. Scruby, an independent, is now the Member of the NSW Legislative Assembly for Pittwater.
Here is what she said about winning:
“I think it’s a very exciting testament that people understand community representation and that independents represent them in the way they want to be represented and they’re effective and can deliver”
And about how:
“Community Independents are only able to do what we do because it is genuine community momentum. It hasn’t just happened overnight, it’s years and years of engaging people in their democracy, having discussions about what people care about, what policies they care about, what their values are,”
So, volunteer today!
