Herald Sun, "There is a push to permanently freeze taxes on draught beer – and it is coming from a politician you would least expect."
Independent Bradfield MP Nicolette Boele has also joined the excise war, calling for a tax freeze to be extended to craft beers.
The move has raised eyebrows among industry sources, who suggested the pair were perhaps the politicians least likely to campaign for cheaper booze.
Ms Boule’s amendment would extend the temporary excise freeze to craft beer, to support small businesses.
“Supporting local business over huge multinationals is just common sense – they’re not asking for special treatment, just a fair go, and my amendment seeks to do just that.”
The Telegraph understands that the Labor government will vote against the amendments.
