Why am I running as the community independent candidate for Bradfield?

I am running because I am convinced  that the people in Bradfield want better - better representation in Canberra, better policies to address the problems we’re facing, better governance, and better results. We have not been given a real choice for decades and have always been taken for granted by both sides of politics. Voters in Bradfield deserve to be represented by a fresh voice who is not beholden to party politics or special interests.

I have lived in Bradfield all my life and have raised my family here. I love this community and I’m determined to make sure the concerns of all Bradfield residents are raised in Canberra.

Is Voices of Bradfield a political party?

No. While Voices of Bradfield has endorsed me as the community independent candidate for Bradfield, it is a community based movement that wants to make sure the best traditions of democracy are maintained. You can read more about Voices of Bradfield here.

What are your policies?

Broadly, I want to see:

- An economy that treats Australians as human beings before it treats us as consumers and producers

- A government that delivers security to all Australians, in the face of climate threats, abuse by the powerful, and embedded inequities

- Institutions, public and private, that are respected and trusted because they are transparent and accountable

You can see some specifics here.

You can also see my pledge to the people of Bradfield here.

As a community focused independent my role is to represent you.  Please share your views and interests with me through our short community survey here.

How are you funded?

My campaign is funded by everyday people.

My campaign complies with Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) Regulations. See AEC's regulations here.

My campaign is run mainly by volunteers, who give their time and energy because they believe politics must be done differently if we are to solve the problems this country faces.

To support our community campaign, please donate here.

What are donations used for?

The money is used for the myriad of things that make up a political campaign. Printing, advertising, website hosting, running an office and making sure we comply with the rules and guidelines set down by the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC).

We have a small paid admin staff but the rest of our team are volunteers who live in Bradfield.

Are you associated with Climate 200?

Climate 200 is a crowd-funding organisation and has been supportive of my community campaign as our values regarding climate and integrity are aligned.

As has been reported in The Saturday Paper, in 2024, we received funds through Climate200’s incubator grant

These funds have been used to support our campaign in the lead up to the next federal election.

What are your social media comments moderation guidelines?

The campaign to elect Nicolette Boele believes that positive and constructive conversations are essential for democracy. We welcome comments from everyone, whether you support Nicolette or not. However, if you post something that we believe contains misinformation or disinformation, we will respond to that post with accurate information. If you post content that is racist, sexist, insulting, offensive, or includes personal attacks, we will delete that material, and if you continue to do so, we will block you from commenting.

We believe in civil and respectful debate - because Better is Possible.

What difference can independents really make?

Independent MPs have always made a significant difference to politics and governance in this country. They raise private members’ bills on any issue, forcing the government to address issues they might want to avoid. They  apply rigorous scrutiny to proposed laws in parliament and through the committee system. They  apply media pressure on issues that are important to their constituents.

Most importantly, because Independent MPs are not beholden to party rules or party solidarity, they can ensure policies and laws are based on evidence and best practice, and will deliver the best outcomes for all Australians. Our history shows us that Parliament makes better decisions when there is open debate, not enforced party lines and silence.
